On March 18th the Minneapolis Police Department tried to evict the Harrison/Near-North Encampment. Minneapolis residents would not allow that threat of violence and many neighbors and supporters came to their aid in solidarity.
Officers responded brutally and with excessive force to a community showing up to protect the unhoused: threatening, macing, punching, and violently kneeling directly on a Black man’s neck. MPD arrested 5 people, but were unable to evict the encampment because of the quick response from supporters.
Stand in solidarity with neighbors impacted by the housing crises. Below are pre-written messages for you to text or email your elected officials. Action end date is March 31st at 5pm

New Sports Facility Proposed for Heritage Park Neighborhood!
V3 Sports is a nonprofit organization focused on creating new opportunities for young people to develop skills and gain the experience and discipline from athletic training and competition, and, most importantly, to have fun. It is seeking to develop a triathlon training facility in our neighborhood on the vacant land just north of International Market Square. They also propose to partner with Devean George of George Group North to include a 10 story housing complex with up to 300 market rate and affordable apartments.
To accomplish this, V3 Sports will have to acquire development rights on the property from the City and is seeking support for that proposal.
The facility will provide memberships at an income based sliding scale and also a variety of training and educational programs for neighborhood young people. There will also be some commercial retail space available including cafe space for neighborhood gathering.
V3 Sports is founded and led by Erika Binger, former board chair of the McKnight Foundation.
V3 Sports is seeking support for their proposal from the Heritage Park Neighborhood Association. The Board is, thus, seeking feedback from the neighborhood on the level of support it may have for such a development. Please write to us at mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org or call the office at 612-767-1061 with your feedback. Let us know if you have additional questions or need more information when you write or call and we will be sure to respond.
Some additional detail on the V3 Sports, including a draft architectural rendering of the building, is available here: http://www.v3sports.org/#intro-shift
The proposed location can be found on Google Maps here: http://google.com/maps/place/44.981213,-93.288953
